For my fist current event I am doing 3-D printed horse shoes. Enjoy the article!
The commonwealth scientific and industrial research organization (CSIRO) is making luxury custom made horseshoes for racehorses using “light weight titianium and 3-D printing technology.” Each of the shoes weights around 3.5 ounces less than normal horse shoes so the horses can run faster and improve their chance of winning. CSIRO scientists use a handheld scanner on each horse hoof to make a 3-D model of it. Then they used a designing software that was linked to a 3-D printer and printed each shoe. Although, scientists aren’t just using 3-D printers to make luxury horse shoes, they have other plans also. They think that they can lower the amount of organ doners by printing organs. They even want to improve printing and making food! For instance, in Japan you can have your face printed on 100% chocolate! At CSIRO, they are manufactoring space and car parts as well. In conclusion, 3-D printing is going to help change the world. The End.
