Noble Peace Prize Essay
Rape and child abduction is a horrifying subject that needs to be stopped. Everyday, children are raped and abducted in many countries, including America. Young children are forced into sex and are being sold as slaves, and barely anyone is trying to help them. These are people who are as young as 4 years old, and it happens almost every two minutes in America alone. 90% of children under 12 who were raped knew the person doing it to them. It is appalling that family members and friends think they can get away with such a crime. During 1995 in America, over 126,000 children were raped. 30% of these children were between 4-7 years old. This is disgusting! The number of children who are raped each year only increases, and there is little action taken to it. One of the issues is that most children, especially the girls, don't think it is alright to reach out for help after being raped. They feel the need to stay quiet, which is unacceptable. This issue needs to be addressed with full attention, and every single child must know it is perfectly fine to get help. Children, and victims, need to understand they can be saved from such a frightful life. Clinics and volunteer programs should be set up, and victims can be sent there to heel and know they can have protection. In many countries, the woman who is the victim is very open for punishment for reporting rape, and can even get killed just for asking for help. A study was done in Turkey, and it found that 66% of police officers think that women could be blamed for their rape! and 33% think that certain women deserve to be raped. This is outrageous! How can this go on in this time and age? Men have fought so hard for equality and justice, but women and children don't deserve that? This is a problem that must be stopped, and it starts with awareness of the public, government, and victims.
